Paula (Sugarek) Marchak

Paula (Sugarek) Marchak, 76, of Leander, Texas, formerly of Refugio, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.

Paula was born July 23, 1946, in Beeville to L.D. Sugarek and Isabel (Matejek) Sugarek. She was a graduate of Skidmore-Tynan High School and was a competitive basketball player and drum major. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University in education and was a school teacher for 25 years. She married Edward L. Marchak in Sinton on July 22, 1972. She was of the Catholic faith and was a member of Our Lady of Refuge Church.

She enjoyed spending time with family and traveling and a good game of bingo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, L.D. and Isabel Sugarek; and her husband, Ed Marchak on May 24, 2014.

Paula is survived by her two sons, Kevin (Mary) Marchak of Austin and their son Tyler and John Ed (Jennifer) Marchak of Austin and Jaxon Marchak; a brother, Frank Sugarek of Beeville; and a sister, Susan Warnick (Bill) of Lubbock.

A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, March 6, at Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore with Deacon Santos Jones officiating.
