William Murphy

William Conley "Bill" Murphy passed from this life on June 16, 2019. He was 89. He was born on December 5, 1929 to Annie Kreis Murphy, mother, and Willie Paul Murphy, father, of Papalote, Texas. He had one older sister, Elizabeth Cecil Murphy.

Bill grew up in Papalote, Texas surrounded by ranchers and cowboys like his dad Willie and uncle John Murphy. He learned to ride at an early age and quickly developed a fascination and talent for roping. His favorite stories were about roping calves and steers with his cousin John Layton Murphy. Bill ranched throughout his life, often in two or more counties at once while pursuing his 31-year career as a gas measurement engineer with Transco. After retiring from Transco in 1985, he continued to ranch in Bee, Dimmit and Goliad counties.

From an early age, Bill was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He idolized his uncle Henry Kreis who was a consummate woodsman and marksman. He took great pride in teaching his sons about the outdoors, guns, archery and fishing, and recalling countless stories of previous trips. He graduated from Sinton High School at age sixteen in 1946. He served in the Army and took pride in his military service.

Bill met his loving wife Nancy in Beeville. They were married for 65 years. They had one daughter, Nancy Lyn; and two sons, William David and Brian Paul. He was a selfless, loving husband and father, and always put the welfare of his family above all else. He taught his daughter Lyn anything she ever wanted to learn from math to crafts. He always had a big hug for all of his family. He instilled by example a strong work ethic in his children. He always sported a big smile and did his best to instill a sense of humor in all his family. He never missed a sporting event, practice or function in which his kids participated. He was generous with family, friends and complete strangers and never expected any recognition.

Bill loved spending time with his family, drinking coffee and telling stories about the past. He liked to play the slots and bet on horse racing. He was always fascinated with the oil and gas business and was a formidable lease negotiator.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and his sister.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Murphy of Victoria; daughter Nancy Lyn Hoskins and husband Len of Corpus Christi; son William David Murphy and wife Victoria of Tyler; son Brian Paul Murphy and wife Traci of Montgomery; and grandchildren Rex Hoskins and Danny Hoskins of Corpus Christi, Alyssa Murphy of Keller and Katie Murphy Britt of Fort Collins, Co.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Beeville with Father Richard Gonzales officiating.

A private burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dale Hartman, Israel Soto, Rex Hoskins, Danny Hoskins, Brian Murphy and David Murphy.
