Wanda was born on July 4, 1945, in Denison, Texas, to David Bennett Cherry and Nelly Catherine Bush. In her days as the working wife of Deacon Rolando Salazar, and mother of two, she dedicated her time as a teacher's aide with Pettus ISD. After retirement, she was a volunteer at the Helping Hands Charity Ministry which services Pettus, Beeville, and surrounding towns. She eventually fully retired with her spouse until his passing. Her final years spent as a resident at Windsor Nursing Home in Calallen.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Rolando Salazar; her brother, Bill Cherry; and her sister, Patricia Cherry.

Survivors include her son, Orlando (Debbie) Salazar; her daughter, Xann (Rick) Hinojosa; her grandsons, Michael A. Salazar, Gabriel Salazar, and Andres R. Ramirez; her granddaughter, Olivia M. Salazar; and her sister, Sharon (Conrad) Deavers of Richland Hills, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, August 14, 2026, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Beeville, Texas, with a rosary to be recited at 7 o’clock.

The funeral service will be conducted at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beeville, Texas, at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 15, 2026, with Father Richard Gutierrez officiating.

Burial will follow at the San Fernando De Los Flores Cemetery in La Bahia, Texas. She will be laid to rest by her spouse.
