Walter James “Jim” Bednorz, Jr., of George West, Texas, passed away on June 8, 2025, at the age of 51.
Jim was born on August 17, 1973, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Walter James Bednorz, Sr. and Barbara Ann (Whitworth) Bednorz. He graduated from George West High School in 1991 and attended Del Mar College, where he learned the trade of a machinist. Jim’s passions as a youth were hunting, fishing, and shooting sports. He was a member of the Atascosa County 4-H Trap and Skeet Team and the Live Oak County 4-H Club.
In the 1980s, Jim traveled to Colorado where he trained for two weeks at the Olympic Training Center, to Dallas where he won the Silver Medal at the U.S. Regional Championship Competition, and to California where he competed in the U.S. Olympic Championship as a junior in the event of International Skeet.
As an adult, Jim worked as a skilled machinist, truck driver, rancher and, most currently, as a Technician 2 for TxDot; however, he was considered a “jack-of-all-trades” and could fix just about anything. Jim was also an active member of Brush Country Cowboy Church.
Jim is preceded in death by his sister, Linda Faye Bednorz; cousin, Steven White; aunts, Connie (Bednorz) Dunn and Brenda (Bednorz) White; uncles, Sam Bednorz and Bill Whitworth; paternal grandparents, Walter John Bednorz and Eulalia “Lolly” Rose (Strzelczyk) Bednorz; and maternal grandparents, William Boyd Whitworth and Martha Ann (Jones) Whitworth.
Survivors include his parents, Walter James “Jimmy” Bednorz, Sr. and Barbara Ann (Whitworth) Bednorz of George West; children, Brady Bednorz (Britney) of Stephenville, Emily Bednorz Nelson (Brady) of Weatherford, Bailey Boucher of Three Rivers, and Trista Boucher of Terrell; sisters, Donna Bednorz VanWay (Todd) of Dinero and Amy Bednorz Walters (Brian) of Louise; nephews, Nicholas VanWay, Matthew VanWay, and Ivan Walters; niece, Kaylee Walters; and numerous cousins. Additionally, Jim is survived by his childhood friend, classmate, companion, and the love of his life, Marcie Martin.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, at St. George Catholic Church with a Rosary to be recited at 7 o’clock led by Deacon Cris Luna.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at Brush Country Cowboy Church in George West with Pastor Pat Traxler officiating.
Burial will follow at St. George Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brady Bednorz, Wylee Clifton, Mike Ritchey, Brett Wallace, Charlie Elliott, and TP Morton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Todd VanWay, Nicholas VanWay, Matthew VanWay, Brian Walters, Ivan Walters, and Brady Nelson.
