Vivian Ann West, 85, passed away peacefully at her home on October 24, 2026, in Beeville, Texas, surrounded by her children. She was a cherished wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Vivian was born in Dinero, Texas, on August 24, 1941, to Thomas and Elaine (Long) McCumber. She was the last survivor of their eight children. Her father was a Justice of the Peace for Live Oak County and drove a school bus. They moved from Dinero to George West when she was young and graduated from George West High School in 1959. Vivian married Michael Lyssy at St. George Catholic Church in George West on December 27, 1960. After Michael’s passing in 1977, she raised her three children on her own. Vivian later married Roy West in Beeville on December 12, 1990. Vivian resided in George West until 2017 when she moved to Beeville to live with her daughter while Roy was convalescing in a nursing home. Both marriages were important chapters in her life.
Vivian was a homemaker, but more importantly, a mother. She dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She attended many sporting events and memorable moments in their lives. She enjoyed the outdoors, feeding and watching birds and squirrels in her yard. She had a garden every year and was an excellent cook. There was always a hot meal ready at her house for any visitors. She enjoyed her lottery scratch-off tickets and trips to Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Mary Lyssy, and son, Henry Thomas (Sacka) Lyssy, her first husband Michael Lyssy, her second husband, Roy West, and her 7 siblings Francis Eugene “Gene” McCumber, Dorothy Dalton, Helen Cole, Christine Brittain, Mary McCumber, Lewis Wade “Buddy” McCumber, and Leroy McCumber, daughter-in-law, Peggy Lyssy, and grand daughter-in-law, Victoria Lyssy.
Vivan is survived by her son, Michael Lyssy, Jr, of George West. and daughter, Susan Lyssy, of Beeville. Her grandchildren, Amanda (Maria) Lyssy, Michael Christopher (Kristen) Lyssy, Paige (Gordon) Stuart, and her five great grandchildren, Patton Lyssy, John Michael Lyssy, Avery Lyssy, Hayden Lyssy and Kaydon Willett.
She will be remembered by her generous and loving heart. To know her was to love her. She touched many lives with her beautiful smile and soul. Her memory will remain a blessing to those who knew her.
Her family would like to thank her caregiver Elena Turner, who treated her as if she was her own mother, niece Cynthia Woodall, and Aadi Home Health & Hospice in Corpus Christi, for their compassionate care and comfort. Also, DiNette Weed, a special friend to us all.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 6 at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home in Beeville with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and service to follow at 11 o’clock. All who attend are encouraged to wear bright clothes to honor Vivian’s love for life and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Vivian may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
