Vicenta Martinez

Vicenta “Vickie” (Cruz) Martinez was called to her eternal resting place on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at the age of 81.

Vickie was born November 14, 1938 in Live Oak County to Aniseto and Antonia (Urrabazo) Cruz. She married Arturo Jose Martinez in Three Rivers on September 16, 1961. She was a devoted housewife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of George West. As one of the founding volunteers of Live Oak Outreach, Vickie was actively involved until the very end.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aniseto and Antonia Cruz; a grandson, Amalio Daniel Martinez; and four brothers, Cecilio “Chilo” Cruz, David Cruz, Ramon Cruz and Marcos Cruz.

Left behind to cherish loving memories are her husband of 59 years, Arturo Martinez of George West; a son, Oscar Cruz (Noelia) Martinez of George West; a daughter, Olga Martinez (Roel) Gutierrez of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Oscar Martinez Jr., Oscar Tres Martinez, Gary James Gutierrez, Joy Lynn Gutierrez (Aaron) Coronado and Emily Grace Gutierrez; three sisters, Salomae Cruz Flores, Celia Cruz (Miguel) Ruiz and Pauline Cruz Garcia, all of Three Rivers; four brothers, Cipriano (Emma) Cruz of San Angelo, Abraham Cruz of San Antonio, Aniseto (Gloria) Cruz Jr. of Corpus Christi and Raul (Theresa) Cruz of Leander; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 25, at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 26, at First Baptist Church of George West with Rev. Bobby Hendrick officiating. Burial will follow in the George West Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
