Vernon “Johnny” Schanen Jr., of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026.

Vernon was born on June 23, 1954, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Vernon Schanen Sr. and Mary Lorene. He made his home in Corpus Christi, where he dedicated many years of his life to working as a diesel mechanic. Vernon was a hardworking and dependable man who took great pride in his work and valued the simple joys that made life meaningful.

A true outdoorsman at heart, Vernon found great enjoyment in hunting, fishing and spending time on his small farm. He also had a love for gardening and took pleasure in tending to his land. Vernon was also a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beeville, Texas.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Thomas John “TJ” Schanen; his brother, Jimmy Schanen; his brother-in-law, Bill Causey; and his nephew, Scott Causey.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Keith) Wilks; son, Victor (Cheyenne) Navarrete; grandson, Walker Wilks; granddaughter, Kassidy Wilks; sisters, Patricia Causey, Wanda (Bob) Mulholland and Judy (Joe Bob) Duncan; brother, Charlie (Debbie) Schanen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be recited at 10 o’clock followed by a celebration of life at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home with The Fr. Rev. Blackburn officiating.

Inurnment will follow at Beeville Memorial Park Cemetery.
