Vern Amthor

Vern Lee Amthor, 82, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010. He was born March 21, 1927, in Sealy to Chester and Ulna (Kveton) Amthor. He married Sally Christ on Jan. 5, 1952, in Ganado, served in the United States Navy and retired as production superintendent and ranch lands foreman at Dan A. Hughes Company. He was a past commander for the American Legion, a member of Emmaus Group and Wolf Hunters Association and a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Amthor was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Ulna Amthor, and a sister, Dorothy Niver. Survivors include his wife, Sally Amthor of Beeville; three sons, Richard (Cecilia) Amthor of Beeville, John (Marilyn) Amthor of George West and Steven (Sonia) Amthor of Corpus Christi; one brother, Kirby (Joyce) Amthor of Sealy; four grandchildren, John, Caitlynn, Rhyanne and Tommy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral chapel. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Duke officiating. Burial followed at Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Richard Amthor, John David Amthor, Steven Amthor, John Richard Amthor, Carl White and Kevin Kruger. Honorary pallbearers were Dan Hadamek, Arthur Zander, Walter Kinkler, Oran DeSpain, Dr. Joseph Larakers, Dr. Sam Hogue, Lee Meyer, Lee Roy Magill and Dan Allen Hughes.
