Vera Lee (Shaw) Hale

Vera Lee (Shaw) Hale passed away March 9, 2024, at the age of 82 surrounded by family. Vera was born in Beeville, Texas on August 18, 1941, as one of nine children to Willie Richard Shaw and Hazel Francis (Stuart) Shaw.

She attended Pettus High School and married her high school sweetheart, Robert “Bobby” Hale in 1957. They spent many loving years together moving throughout South Texas and raising three children together, Dennis, Rodney and Deborah. Aside from her love for the Lord, Vera loved nothing more than being a wife, mom and grandmother. She also worked many years at William Adams Junior High School in Alice, Texas in the attendance office.

Vera loved spending time with her family and friends playing 42, chasing grandkids around the house and shopping with the girls. Her home was always filled with love, laughter and the smell of something delicious that she was cooking. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzler, watcher of game shows and ID channel sleuth. She brought a sunshine and spunk to life that only a grandma named “Ging Gong” could have.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bobby Hale; son, Rodney Hale; sisters, Loraine Treybig, Marie Jennings and Alene Greer; and brothers, Richard Shaw, Gary Shaw and Walter Edmond.

Left behind to cherish her loving memories include her son, Dennis (Kathy) Hale of Alice; daughter, Deborah (Jeff) Ward of Sandia; daughter-in-law, Brenda Hale of Beeville; grandchildren, Ashley (Jose) Armenta, Caye Lynne (Brad) Schmidt, Robert (Alina) Hale, Amy (TJ) Salinas, Cody Hale, Joshua Ward and Hannah Ward; sisters, Mary Ella Steele and Willie Hackney; and many great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville, Texas.

Family and friends will gather at the First Baptist Church Activities Center, 600 N. Jefferson St. in Beeville after the graveside service to visit and share memories.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
