Velma (Staples) Kossa-McGrew, 95, formerly of Beeville, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017. Mrs. Kossa-McGrew was born to Ross and Ola Staples on Jan. 11, 1922, in Tuleta. She married Edwin Kossa, and they were active in St. Joseph Catholic Church and school. In 2006, she married Elbert McGrew. She was a homemaker as well as director of the Bee County Senior Citizen Center. She enjoyed playing dominoes with her many friends, being a member of a local dance club, and she also loved to polka. She was queen of the St. Joseph Mardi Gras and baked many cakes for the Knights of Columbus events. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Edwin Kossa; second husband, Elbert McGrew; a son, LTC Phillip Kossa; a grandson, Michael Lindemulder; a great-grandson; and four brothers, James, Sam, Tom and Robert Staples. Survivors include three children, Helen (Floyd) Broussard of Orange, Judy (David) Lindemulder of Spring Lake, Michigan, and Raymond Kossa of Florida; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-children; one brother, Ted Staples; three sisters, Gladys Herod, Annabelle Cooley and Cordelia Sparks; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Following the visitation, a rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. and the funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 o’clock. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to: PISD Tommy Staples, Jr. Memorial Fund, Pettus TX 78146.
