Sister Rosario Lopez Reyes was born on 6 October 1944, the seventh of eight children of Olimpia Lopez and Manuel Reyes in San Jacinto Pangasinan Philippines. Born in a Christian family with deep religious conviction, her desire to serve God totally was nurtured so, on April 28, 1966, she entered the religious life. On January 4, 1969, she pronounced her first religious profession as a Religious Missionary Sister of St. Dominic de Guzman, known as OP or Order of Preachers.
As a Missionary Sister, following the footstep of St. Dominic, who was an itinerant preacher, Sr. Rosario was sent to Taipei, Taiwan after her perpetual profession in 1974. There upon she started her local and foreign missionary journeys. She has trodden foot first in the Phil. then to other countries of the world.
In 1985 she came to the US, first in Alice, Texas, her first love. No wonder, she preferred to die there and she did! In 1993, she was sent to Beeville; 1995 to Sta. Paula, California. In 1996 she was back to Alice, then to Beeville again in 1997 to 2000. From 2000 to 2003 she worked as the Diocesan Religious Coordinator particularly in the rural areas of Alice, Texas. She preached the Word of God by her word and life, serving God’s people whether in school or in rural areas, as a classroom teacher, a school principal, a Religious Education Coordinator, or a local prioress of her religious community.
After a short stay in Oxnard, CA (2005-2006) she was assigned back to the Phil. due to her health problems but continued her apostolates as in the US but at a lower speed. And in 2021 she asked to be back to the US and was assigned to our present community, Our Lady of the Rosary Learning Center, here in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Thus, our dear Sr. Rosario L. Reyes “walked humbly with her God, in justice and in mercy”. May she enter into God’s heavenly kingdom, wearing her “crown prepared by her Beloved for all eternity”.
