Ross Harold Curbello

Ross Curbello of George West, Texas passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2024, at the age of 88. We will miss Ross very much but can take solace in knowing he is with our Lord now and does not have to endure any pain or suffering.

Ross was born in Skidmore, Texas on November 26, 1935, to Jasper and Marie Curbello. He was the second youngest of 10 children who have all preceded him in death except his youngest sister, Nancy (Hal) Toomey.

Ross is also survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Curbello; son, Chris Curbello; daughter, Tina (John) Johnson; and daughter-in-law, Mary Curbello. He was also blessed with three grandsons, Garrett (Zoe) Curbello, Jordan (Kali) Johnson and Colton Curbello; great-grandson, Turner Johnson; two granddaughters, Mallory Johnson and Caitlin (Marcus) Rodriguez; and two great-granddaughters, Saylor Johnson and Zelda Rodriguez.

Ross was also preceded in death by his eldest son, Randy Curbello; and grandson, Harrison Curbello.

Ross was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those he knew and those he didn’t. If you met Ross out and about, you most likely experienced a smile on his face, a warm greeting, and some friendly quip or “Ross-ism”. (If you know, you know!)

Ross exemplified Christianity and faith and served as a Deacon at Southside Baptist Church in Corpus Christi and First Baptist Church in George West. He was also very involved in the choirs of both churches as a member, song leader, and performing some great solos. Ross taught Sunday School classes to young and old alike.

Ross attended Texas A&I University after graduating from Skidmore High School. He went on to work for a number of years with Sherwin Williams as a store manager. After leaving Sherwin Williams, Ross and Shirley owned and operated the Cottage Motel and laundromat in George West. He also worked for the Randall Corporation and then retired from a gauger position with Tesoro. Even in retirement, Ross always had his hands in something by working part time for Dave and Cheri Dee Moore at Best Western or at Galloway& Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 12, at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West.

The funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, at First Baptist Church in George West with Pastor Bob Hendrick and Brother Bruce Irving officiating and Judy Hendrick leading the music.

Burial will follow in the George West Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be fellow Deacons from First Baptist Church, Larry Freeman, Dennis Hatfield, Johnny McCain, Steve Mosley, Allen Rogers and Hudson Sisk.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ross Cansino, Jim Bassett, Scott Carroll, Stephen Gober, Don Martin, Richard Moore, George Schroeder, James Stewart and Clifford Word.
