Raymond Eugene Gilstrap, 84, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 19, 2026.
Raymond was born in Wray, Colorado, on December 10, 1941 to Raymond and Beulah Gilstrap. He was a member of the Skidmore Baptist Church. He joined the Navy in 1961 and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was stationed in Rota, Spain, Guam/Vietnam, Hawaii and served on the USS Ticonderoga and the USS Midway during his Naval career. He earned many military awards during his Naval career, including the Vietnam Service Ribbon. He retired after 22 years of service. His character was one of strength and resilience. He faced life’s challenges with courage and grace, never backing down from what was right. Raymond’s integrity, honesty and kindness were qualities that defined him and left a lasting impact on his loved ones.
On May 30, 2002, Raymond married Vicki Slayton. He taught her what it means to truly love someone, and to be patient, kind and forgiving. He showed that love was not just about grand gestures, but about being present, offering support and sharing the ups and downs of life. His love was a constant beacon of light that never diminished.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Gilstrap; and sisters, Margaret Miller and Barbara Jordan.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki Gilstrap; sons, Donald (Maria) and Daniel (Sara); granddaughters, Trinity, Tyndall, and Brianna Gilstrap; stepchildren, Bryan Hudson, Brad (Ann) Hudson,and Kristy (Hector) Luna; step-granddaughter, Natalie Hudson; sisters, Doris Short, Carol Hall and Judy Briones; and special friend, Patricia Hartman.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Skidmore followed by the funeral service at 10:00 AM. Burial will then follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bryan Hudson, Brad Hudson, George Hudson, Hector and Kristy Luna, and Glenn Slayton.
