Phyllis Ann Hughes

Phyllis Ann Boren Hughes, 65, passed away on July 27, 2026.

Phyllis was born on July 4, 1961, in New Braunfels, Texas, to JoAnn Rust Boren and Darrel Boren. She met and married the love of her life, David Hughes, on October 5, 1981, in Beeville, Texas.

Phyllis devoted her career to education, beginning as an agricultural science teacher at A.C. Jones High School, where she met David. Her passion for helping students continued throughout her career, and she later retired from Beeville ISD, as a dyslexia specialist.

Outside of her career, Phyllis was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Beeville. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she enjoyed being actively involved in the church community. She especially enjoyed playing handbells, sharing her musical talents and fellowship with others.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Hughes. After nearly 16 years apart, her family finds comfort in knowing that they are together once again. She was also preceded in death by her father, Darrel Boren; and her grandparents, Willie and Hilda Rust, and Magnes and Opal Boren.

Survivors include her mother, JoAnn Boren; her children, Kandy (Russell) Brown and Morgan (Erin) Hughes; her grandchildren, Davie, Sloan, Logan and Paige; her siblings, JimBob (Kim) Boren, Reba (Tim) Waller and Kerri (Richard) Caldwell; and a host of other relatives who cherished her dearly.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Don Taylor officiating.

Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Garrett Ward, Lance Volner, Jerritt Watts, Colby Arthur, Kannon Goodson and Cody Waller.
