Patricia “Pat” Ann Taylor Larson, 70, of Mathis, Texas passed away January 7, 2026, after a long illness. She was residing at the Live Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in George West, Texas at the time of her death.
Pat was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lawrence Larson; her son, Travis Larson; her parents, Edwin and Hortense Taylor; her brother, Ed Taylor; and an infant brother, David Taylor.
Pat is survived by her son’s fiancée, Monica Upshaw of Boerne, Texas; her sister-in-law, Sherry Taylor of Victoria, Texas; nephews Cody (Erica) Taylor of Prosper, Texas and Curtis (Lisa) Kuhlman and Kyle (Carla) Kuhlman, both of Ganado, Texas; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pat was born on June 20, 1955, in Port Lavaca, Texas. She graduated from Calhoun High School and attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. She graduated with a degree in Education with a minor in Biology, followed by a Master's in Education. She was a member of Delta Psi Kappa.
Pat taught and coached in Bloomington, Texas, before moving to Three Rivers, Texas to begin her 30-year teaching/coaching career. She was eventually forced to quit coaching due to complications of Multiple Sclerosis.
Pat and Lawrence built their home in Mathis, Texas, on Lake Corpus Christi. Lawrence worked for Union Pacific Railroad out of Corpus Christi, Texas, so Mathis was a good in-between location for them to live. They loved all outdoor activities and enjoyed boating, skiing and fishing right in their backyard. Pat and her family were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Mathis, where she also taught CCD classes for a number of years.
Their son, Travis, was their pride and joy. He attended school in Three Rivers and graduated in 2009, the same year Pat retired.
Being very active and independent, Pat’s diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis was devastating for her, but she bravely faced it head-on and continued to teach after her health forced her to give up coaching.
Pat was one of the best teachers and coaches to ever walk the halls of Three Rivers High School. She knew how to get the best out of her students and athletes and took great pride in her profession. She cared about the success of her students and even though she was “tough,” she was well respected by everyone.
In the last five years of Pat’s life, she suffered tremendous loss. Shortly after the loss of her husband, Lawrence, the love of her life, she suffered a light stroke. She was unable to live alone and moved to the nursing home in Mathis. Two years later, her son, Travis, died suddenly of a massive heart attack at the age of 32. Losing her entire family within a two-year span took a toll on Pat’s health and especially her heart. She was again devastated and lonely. Pat moved to the Live Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in George West to be closer to her friends. In the two years that she lived there, Pat was blessed with visits from former co-workers, former students and athletes and many friends.
Thank you to Palma Real in Mathis, Texas, Live Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in George West and Choice Hospice for taking such good care of Pat.
