Nancy Jane Murphy

Nancy Jane Murphy of Victoria, Texas passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at age 87.

Nancy was born and raised in Beeville, Texas and was a daughter among six other siblings to Theda and Clarence Wright on June 17, 1936. Always an energetic, positive and hard-working person, she was very active at a young age helping raise her six siblings and working jobs outside of attending A.C. Jones High School.

After high school, Nancy met and married the love of her life, William Conley “Bill” Murphy, who had recently served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. They maintained a happy marriage together until his death. During their 64 years together as husband and wife, they raised three children: Nancy Lyn Murphy, eldest child and only daughter, William David Murphy, eldest son, and Brian Paul Murphy, youngest son. Bill’s career brought him and the family to Three Rivers, Texas, where they lived until all the children had graduated high school.

Nancy was extremely self-disciplined and always maintained a happy, immaculate and well-run home. She arose each morning before anyone else and was the last to sleep at night, between which she provided for the family’s needs and made time for her friends, children’s school events, and volunteered on the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Altar Society. She was always patient, loving and self-sacrificing. The local school kids, friends of her children, referred to her as “Mama Murphy,” and she always welcomed them to the table for meals and visits with the family. A kind, sociable and reliable friend, she maintained genuine friendships with many people throughout her life.

She was widowed on June 16, 2019, when her lifelong husband and father to her children, Bill Murphy, passed suddenly.

Nancy had recently been admitted to hospice due to a late-stage cancer diagnosis. Always a brave, strong woman of immovable Christian faith, she accepted her diagnosis with utmost dignity and stoically endured her illness. She has gone on to join our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her departed husband Bill, and all other loved ones who preceded her in death.

Nancy is survived by her beloved and adoring family including her daughter, Lyn (Leonard) Hoskins of Corpus Christi; two sons, David (Vikki) Murphy of Tyler and Brian (Traci) Murphy of Argyle; two brothers, Jim (Pam) Wright of Argyle and Johnny (Jill) Wright of Corsicana; four grandchildren, Kaitlin (Jackson) Farley of Dallas, Rex Hoskins and Danny Hoskins, both of Corpus Christi and Alyssa (Peyton) Ray of Justin; great-grandson, Bryson Ray of Justin; as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews and loving friends and caretakers, Dale Hartman and his partner, Margaret, of Victoria.

Visitation will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, followed by the funeral service at 1 o’clock at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home, 409 N. Tyler, Beeville, Texas 78102. Father R.J. Regalado will officiate.
