Myra Louise Crocker Torbert passed away on August 23, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas.

She was born in Thomaston, Alabama, to Gordon and Luna (McManus) Crocker, on April 1, 1921. She grew up on a small family farm outside of Thomaston with her parents and three siblings. After graduating from Marengo County High School at age 16, she attended Alabama College for Women, now known as the University of Montevallo. She graduated from college in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics.

Myra then worked for 13 years, first as a high school home economics teacher for 4 years, and later as a home economist for various entities in Alabama. She married Harold Torbert in 1951 in Birmingham. They then moved to Atlanta, Georgia where their two daughters, Alice and Jill, were born.

After living in Atlanta for 7 years, the family moved to the Dallas area. Harold's job required him to travel frequently, leaving the everyday household and child raising responsibilities to Myra. She was always there for the girls, whether it was taking them to dance lessons, swimming classes, Girl Scouts, or teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She spent endless hours at her sewing machine sewing for them. As the girls got older, she began volunteering her time for others. She was a faithful volunteer at a non-profit family counseling center for 20 years. In her later years, she became an active participant at the Senior Citizens Center in Irving, where she took a computer class and participated in aerobics until she was 85.

Myra and Harold lived in the Dallas area until 2007 when health concerns became an issue and their daughters moved them to south Texas to be closer to them. Harold died in 2012.

Myra is survived by her oldest daughter, Alice, and her husband, Larry; her younger daughter, Jill, and her husband, Vincent Johnson; two grandchildren, Aaron McClintock, and his wife, Erica Edwardson, and Laura McClintock; and one great granddaughter, June McClintock. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Myra was a gentle soul and will be missed by those who knew her.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville, Texas.
