Mildredd Saunders

Mildred Dale Wilson Davis Saunders November 2, 1923 - March 26, 2010 Mildred Saunders, 86, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2010 in Corpus Christi, Texas with her family by her side. Mildred was born in Clegg, Texas to Lena Margaret Bryan Wilson and James Belo Wilson. She was married to James Reid Saunders for 58 years and they made their home in George West. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Mildred and James were life-long members of the George West Church of Christ. Mildred, "Mimmie" as she was known to her family, was proud of her roots and even more proud of her family. She saw to it that all of her children and grandchildren graduated from college, a feat she was very proud of. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. In her younger days, she enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, travel, genealogy, and lately, she enjoyed computer games, cards with friends, and playing with her great-grandbabies. She was always the queen of organizing, more a passion than a chore. She always thought of others first, working tirelessly to gather items to give to those in need. Mildred was preceded in death by her husbands; Lawrence Vernon "Shot" Davis (killed in action during WWII on July 2, 1944) and James Reid Saunders as well as her parents, Lena and Belo Wilson. She is survived by her brother: James William "Bill" Wilson (Geneva) of Centerville, her daughters: Angenelle Louise Davis Pickett of Beeville and Delmagene Virginia Saunders Storm of Corpus Christi, her grandchildren: Henry O. Pickett II (Staci) of Seymour, Randy Pickett (Krissi) of Inez, Jennifer Storm-Nuckels (David) of Corpus Christi, and Reid Storm (Karyn) of San Antonio, four great-grandchildren: Makenzi Pickett, Carly Pickett, Landon Nuckels, and Caitlyn Storm, and her niece and nephew she and James helped raise as their own: Jackie Saunders of San Antonio and Mike Saunders of Austin. She is also survived by numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 from 5:30pm-7:30pm at Galloway Funeral Home in George West. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 2:00pm at the George West Church of Christ with burial to follow at the George West Cemetery. Mildred supported the following two organizations in George West: Unify to Beauty and Gateway to Cemetery Project.
