Melinda Rodriguez

Melinda Ann (Cantu) Rodriguez, 53, of Austin, Texas, earned her heavenly wings on October 6, 2021, a week after the passing of her beloved Mother.

Melinda was born September 6, 1968 in George West to Audelia (Zuniga) Cervantes and Blas Cantu. She married Mauricio Rodriguez on January 17, 2017 in Austin. She loved to dance, watch movies, trying new foods and enjoyed cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Audelia Cervantes and Blas Cantu; and grandparents, Eugenio Zuniga, Ester Zuniga and Guadalupe Zuniga.

Survivors include her husband, Mauricio Rodriguez of Austin; daughters, Rebecca (Severino) Villa of Dallas and Melonie Perez of Kyle; sons, Ryan Hernandez, Rey Hernandez and Roland Hernandez, all of Austin, and Rigoberto Zavaleta, Jr. of Dallas; seven sisters, Diana (Raymundo) Avila and Carolyn Rodriguez (Basilio Gutierrez), both of Austin, Becky (George) Lopez of Three Rivers, Lori Cantu of Dallas, Brenda Rodriguez of San Antonio and Christina Cervantes and Jolene Cervantes, both of Austin; eight brothers, Blas (Alicia) Cantu and Daniel Cantu, both of Seagraves, Michael Cantu of Austin, Freddy Diaz of Three Rivers, Benny (Erica) Cantu of George West and Adam Cervantes, Sabino Cervantes and Albert Cervantes, all of Austin; sister-in-law, Grace Cantu of George West; eight grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A Rosary will be recited at 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. She will be laid to rest in the George West Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rolando Hernandez, Jr., Rey Anthony Hernandez, Ryan Lee Hernandez, Melonie Perez, Rigoberto Zavaleta, Jr. and Severino Villa.
