Mary Arnette Jackson (née Laughter) died in Kirkland, WA on November 25, 2017, due to heart failure. She was 75.
Ms. Jackson was born on November 8, 1942, in Pasadena, TX to her parents, Pyron Dix and Dora Emily Laughter. She earned a degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas. She was married to Ralph Semmes Jackson, Jr. in 1966. After his death in 1993, she remarried to Joe D. Bright in 1997. During her life, she worked as a music teacher and as a real estate broker in Beeville, TX. She moved to Anderson Island, WA in 2008 where she remained until 2017.
Ms. Jackson was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Beeville. She served her community in many capacities including as member of the Beeville ISD school board, president of Beeville's Economic Improvement Corporation, member of the Water Board, president of the Bee County Library Board, president of the County Education District, president of the Junior Service League, and Lay Director for an Emmaus Walk. On Anderson Island, she was also active in her church and in her community. In her spare time, she wrote music and children's books.
Ms. Jackson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ralph S. and Marie Jackson of Everett, WA; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kate Jackson of Bryan, TX; her sister, Virginia Laverne Hainline; her brother, Leslie Dix Laughter; and her grandchildren, Ralph, Joseph, Jacob, Teddy, Allen, Emily and Dora.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her second husband, Joe; and her sister, Emily Lucille Stephenson.
Visitation for Ms. Jackson will be held at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home in Beeville, TX on December 15, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Beeville on December 16, 2017, at 10 a.m. Burial at Glenwood Cemetery will follow the service. Flowers are welcome but Ms. Jackson also requested that donations be made to cancer research or to a pet charity in her name.
