Marilyn Taylor

Marilyn Gail Mead entered this world on March 4, 1944, in Tacoma, WA born to a career Air Force officer, Benjamin Abbott Mead, and Winifred Wire Mead. She would be the oldest of four children and would travel a lot through the years leading up to graduation from Sidney Lanier High School, Montgomery, AL. She lived in Washington state several times, as all siblings were born in either Tacoma or Spokane while their father was "off to war". Other places included Germany, Hawaii, Japan, Virginia and Alabama. It was as a teenager that she joined a Christian church through confirmation along with her sister, Dana.

After High School graduation the family moved to San Antonio. At San Antonio College she met a young man who was in English and Biology classes with her. It is not sure who wooed who, but they became engaged in 1964. On May 29, 1965, Donald R. Taylor and Marilyn Gail Mead became husband and wife. Prior to their marriage she worked as secretary at Don's family church and joined the church by adult instruction. The passage of scripture about the two becoming one was true and "leaving father and mother" was even more true as about the same time her father was transferred to SHAPE headquarters in Paris and Brussels, and a year later Don and Marilyn were off to seminary. Don earned his Masters of Divinity in 1970 and Marilyn received a PHT, standing for "Putting Hubby Through". Scott was born on October 23, 1968, and Chris was born on October 30, 1971. Marilyn worked in banking and as a teacher's aide over the years when she wasn't an active stay at home Mom.

As a family in 41 years of ministry in the Lutheran church they served 5 churches. She was always active in women's leadership in support of ministries with love and care in the churches that they served. They also lived in Fort Ord, CA; Fort Hood, TX; Fort Monmouth, NJ; Hanau, Germany; and Fort Lewis, WA during Don's service to the country as a U.S. Army Chaplain. After retiring from Faith Lutheran, in Beeville, TX they chose to live outside of Beeville. She died on February 21.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Dana Miles.

She is survived by her husband; sons, Scott (Becky) of Beeville and Chris (Elizabeth) of Austin; four granddaughters, Keely, Jacey, Ava, and Cali; a brother, Ben Mead of Hawaii; a sister, Robin Holt, of Washington state; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Also, there have been many friends touched over the years.

A memorial service is being planned at Faith Lutheran at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 4, 2018. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Marilyn Taylor endowment in the Faith Lutheran Memorial Fund, Faith Lutheran, 1500 E FM 351, Beeville, Texas 78102.
