Maria Herrera

Maria Guadalupe (Cortez) Herrera, 65, of Pettus, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017.

Mrs. Herrera was born Oct. 30, 1951, to Maria Hinojosa and Juan Cortez. She married Ellis Ysguirre Herrera in Skidmore and was a homemaker and a Catholic. She enjoyed taking care of animals and all wildlife.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Sam Santos Herrera; and two brothers, Joe Angel Cortez and David Cortez.

Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Herrera of Beeville; two sons, Johnny (Alice) Herrera of Mario and Ellis (Mary Jane) Herrera Jr. of Corpus Christi; three brothers: Reynaldo Cortez (Grace) of Texarkana, and Ruben (Tanya) Cortez and Jose Andres (Navi) Cortez, both of Michigan; two sisters, Yolanda (Domingo) Berrios of Plano and Mary Jane (Raymond) Tamez of McKinney; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home from 3 to 8 p.m. A rosary was recited there this evening at 7 o'clock.
