Maria Garza

Maria "Esmeralda" (Rodriguez) Garza, 74, of George West, Texas, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018.
Esmeralda was born on December 2, 1943 in Alice, Texas, to Ramon and Ladislada (Garza) Rodriguez. She married Jesus Garza on Feb. 11, 1961 in Alice. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was a member of St. George Catholic Church. She retired from George West Independent School District.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Ladislada "Tanis" Rodriguez.; two brothers, Roberto Rodriguez and Leandro Rodriguez; one sister, Gilda Perez; grandparents, Leandro Rodriguez and Augustina S. Rodriguez; and one brother-in-law, Juan H. Barrera.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Jesus G. Garza Sr. of George West; one son, Jesus (Deborah) Garza Jr. of George West; two daughters, Elsa (John) Gilbert of Alice and Elle Garza of George West; eight grandchildren, Eric (Melissa) Garza of George West, Stacey (Mac) Wilson of George West, Bryan (Jordan) Garza of George West, Amy Garza of George West, David Carvajal (Kirsten) of Houston, Laura Carvajal of George West,, Lauren Gilbert of Corpus Christi and Clayton Gilbert of San Marcos; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Ramon (Elsa) Rodriguez Jr. of Alice; four sisters, Virgie Barrera of San Diego and Yolanda (Domingo) Gonzalez, Consuela Rea and Dalia (Zeke) Luna, all of Alice; and a brother-in-law, Mage Perez.
Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 from 5 to 6 p.m. at Galloway & Sons George West chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7 o'clock that evening at St. George Catholic Church with Deacon Shayne Katzfey officiating.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at St. George Catholic Church with Father George Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Eric Garza, Bryan Garza, David Carvajal, Clayton Gilbert, Michael Perez, Maggie Perez Jr., Mac Wilson, Cris Garza Jr. and Jimmy Garza.
Honorary pallbearers will be Stetson Garza, Hunter Wilson and David Carvajal Jr.
