Surrounded by his beloved wife and family, Manuel Fuentes Chapa, Jr., 82, of George West, Texas passed from this world into the loving arms of God on Friday, November 10, 2023.
Manuel was born October 18, 1941, in Clegg, Texas, to Miquela (Fuentes) and Manuel Chapa, Sr. He married Eloisa Garcia on December 5, 1964, in Austin, Texas. Manuel’s job in the construction business had him traveling to many South Texas locations where he dedicated approximately 20 years with Haas-Anderson Construction Company as foreman and supervisor. He retired at age 67. He was a faithful parishioner of St. George Catholic Church.
Family get-togethers brought Manuel much happiness. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, who held a special place in his heart. He loved nothing more than watching them grow and thrive. He also enjoyed tending to his garden and plants and watching them grow and flourish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Miquela and Manuel Chapa, Sr.; three sisters, Antonia Guerrero, Delfina De La Rosa and Eva Lopez; and three brothers, Endercio Chapa Sr., Lucio Chapa and Uvaldo Chapa.
Left behind to treasure special memories include his loving wife of almost 59 years, Eloisa (Garcia) Chapa; four sons, Manuel (Deirdre) Chapa III, Antonio “Tony” Chapa, Ricardo “Ricky” (Amanda) Chapa and Valerio “Val” (Leah) Chapa; a brother, Ismael Chapa; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 13, at St. George Catholic Church with the Rosary to be recited at 7 o’clock that evening.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 16, at St. George Catholic Church with Father Romeo Salinas officiating.
Burial will follow in the St. George Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Javier Chapa, Gavin Chapa, Diego Chapa, Zackary Chapa, Joel Chapa, Uvaldo Chapa Jr., Endercio Chapa Jr. and David Chapa.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Oscar Guerrero, Johnny Chapa, Ralph Lopez, Ronald Lopez and Freddie Moya.
