Linny Steenken

Linny Steenken, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 26, in Longview, Texas.

Linny was born on July 1, 1935, to Willie and Naomi (Burns) Dixon in rural Wilson County Texas. After graduating as salutatorian from Stockdale High School in 1952, she began her banking career with the National Bank of Commerce in San Antonio, Texas and worked there for three years. After a brief courtship, she married Louis Steenken on December 16, 1955, and together they made their home in Beeville for sixty years.

Linny went to work for First National Bank of Beeville in 1956 in the bookkeeping department. She worked there for eight years before becoming a stay-at-home mom for eleven years. Once her daughters were all in school, she returned to First National where she worked as a teller and in the collection department until her retirement in 1998. Linny loved working and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her customers and building special friendships during her working career. In addition, she was an active member of First Baptist Church of Beeville for more than 50 years.

After her retirement, Louis and Linny travelled with Texas Baptist Men's church building ministry constructing churches across Texas and in Idaho. She too was very involved in the lives of her daughters and grandchildren often attending special events with them, spending time at the family farm, and caring for her grandchildren.

Linny is survived by three daughters, Tammy Carter (Greg) of Longview, Texas, Karen Russell (Robert) of Fort Worth Texas, and Stacy Steenken (Mitsie) of San Marcos, Texas; and four grandchildren, William Carter of Baytown, Texas, Austin Carter of College Station, Texas, Kendall Russell of Springfield Missouri, and Christopher Russell of Fort Worth. She is also survived by two sisters, Roe Tyus, and Mary (Garland) Neal both of Waco and several nieces and nephews.

Linny was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; her parents; a brother, James Dixon; and an infant daughter, Joy Elaine.

Pallbearers will be Greg, William and Austin Carter, Robert and Christopher Russell, and Quent Harris with Garland Neal serving as an honorary pallbearer.

Memorial gifts may be sent to the Texas Baptist Men's Building Ministry to the attention of Ron Beard at: Texas Baptist Men, 5351 Cantron Drive, Dallas, Texas 75227.
