John Johnson

John R. Johnson was born on September 28, 1955 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Cecil Truman and Alma (Berry) Johnson. On April 15, 1979 he married the love of his life, Dodie. John was a loving husband, father, and Pawpaw.

On August 26, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s and surrounded by the family that he loved so much, he left his earthly home to be with the Lord.

As a small child, Johnny taught himself to play the guitar and wrote many songs, two of which he recorded in Nashville. Although he never made it big time and became famous to the world, he was often known to cut a rug as well as pick his guitar and sing with his children, grandchildren, or his church community. He also had a love of creating things with wood, and the family laughs about the many creative things that he would do with PVC pipe.

Above all, Johnny had an incredible love for Jesus Christ that was apparent in the joy that radiated from him, even during the height of his battle with Alzheimer’s. Because of this love and joy, Johnny never met a stranger, and his daughters-in-law and son-in-law were not just in laws, but truly like children of his own.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Alma Johnson, as well as his "mother-in-love,” Rena R. Nisely.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dodie Johnson; his son, Joey (Jennifer) McFall, son, Jay (Esther) McFall, daughter, Mandi McFall, daughter, JoRena (Billy) Daniel and son, Timothy (Kimberly) Johnson; his grandchildren, Sarah McFall, KaRena Daniel, Hunter Daniel, Matthew McFall, Lila McFall, Abby Gerlach, Luke Daniel, Savannah Gerlach, Julia McFall, Alexis Johnson and Jackson Johnson; his faithful doggy companion, Fuzzy Butt; and his sister, Dixie (Louis) Nugent.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 11, at Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore followed by a meal at the Volunteer Fire Department in Skidmore.
