Joe Pat Powell, 93, of George West, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2024.

Born on August 22, 1930, in Panhandle, Texas, Joe Pat was a beloved figure in his community and a cherished member of his family.  Joe Pat proudly served as a Gunner's Mate Third Class on the USS Frank E. Evans DD-745 during the Korean War. After his military service, he founded and operated Joe P. Powell Painting and Floor Covering from 1966 until his retirement in 2012. He grew up in Pleasanton, where he loved hunting and cherished his upbringing, enjoying many adventures in the great outdoors. As a young man, he spent countless nights hunting with dogs, an activity that brought him great joy. An avid sports enthusiast, Joe Pat excelled in high school sports and played semi-professional baseball, earning him a place in the Pleasanton Eagle Hall of Fame. He relished watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play various sports, continuing his lifelong passion for baseball and athletics.

Joe Pat was preceded in death by his loving wife, Claudia Kendall Powell, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years. He also was preceded by two brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his devoted children, Paula Brice and her husband Mack, Debbie Smith and her husband Terry, Pat Powell and Greg Powell and his wife Avis. Joe Pat was a proud grandfather to Matt Brice (Christina), Chris Brice, Teresa Smith-Knuppel (Ryan), Jeremiah Smith (Cammie), Amanda Smith, Fischer Powell, Hunter Powell and Hayden Powell; and a great-grandfather to Sofie Brice, Byron Carvajal, Taylor Knuppel, Ashley Knuppel, Ruby Smith and Harrison Smith.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 22, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Three Rivers.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Brush Country Cowboy Church with Pastor Pat Traxler officiating. Burial will follow in the George West Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Matt Brice, Chris Brice, Jeremiah Smith, Fischer Powell, Hayden Powell, Hunter Powell and Byron Carvajal.

The family invites those who wish to remember Joe Pat to make a donation to your preferred charity in lieu of flowers.

Joe Pat's legacy of love, perseverance and passion for life will be carried on by those who knew him and were touched by his spirit.
