Jimmy Schanen, 68, of Corpus Christi, passed away on February 21, 2026.
Born on August 19, 1957, in Corpus Christi, Jimmy was raised the old-fashioned way — on hard work, calloused hands, and doing things right the first time. A true country boy at heart, he spent his life turning wrenches, solving problems, and helping anyone who needed something fixed.
He worked as a mechanic for most of his life — not just as a job, but as a calling. There wasn’t an engine he wouldn’t tear into or a machine he wouldn’t try to bring back to life. Friends and family knew that if something was broken, you brought it to Jimmy. And somehow, some way, he’d make it run again.
When he wasn’t in the shop, you could usually find him at the dirt track. Dirt track racing wasn’t just entertainment — it was in his blood. He loved the roar of engines, the smell of fuel, and the grit of a good Saturday night race. Whether he was racing, wrenching in the pits, cheering from the stands, or even getting into the occasional scuffle, that track was home.
He believed in showing up early, staying late, and taking care of his people. He was a man of few words but steady presence — dependable, loyal, and proud of the life he built with his hands.
Above all, Jimmy loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon “Sonny” Schanen, Sr., and his wife, Mary Lorene Schanen; his maternal grandparents, Mary and Jim Roschetzky; and his paternal grandparents, Agnes and Jim Schanen.
Survivors include his children, Wanda Dreyer and her husband, William Dreyer; Jimmy Schanen, Jr. and his wife, Pamela Schanen; and Eric Schanen and his wife, Candice Schanen; his siblings, Pat Causey and her husband, William, Sr. Causey; Judy Duncan and her husband, Jo Bob Duncan; Wanda Mulholland and her husband, Bob Mulholland; Vernon “Johnny” Schanen, Jr.; and Charlie Schanen and his wife, Debbie Schanen; thirteen beloved grandchildren, Joseph Brown, Jordan Brown and his wife, Mariana Brown, Marcela Brown, Wil Dreyer, Ethan Dreyer, Bryce Dreyer, Amelia Dreyer, Logen Schanen, Chase Schanen, Morgen Schanen, Zander Schanen, Hayden Schanen, and Payton Schanen; one loving great-granddaughter, Harley Brown; one uncle, Vernon “Tooter” Roschetzky; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends who will forever remember his quiet strength and stubborn determination.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home in Beeville followed by the funeral service at 12 o’clock with Rev. John Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Schanen Jr., Eric Schanen, Joseph Brown, Jordan Brown, Logen Schanen, Chase Schanen, Morgen Schanen, and Zander Schanen.
Though his tools may now rest and the engines have gone quiet, his legacy lives on in every lesson he taught, every bolt he tightened, and every life he helped steadily along the way.
