James Joe Vanecek, fondly known as “Czeco,” 75, of Corpus Christi and Sinton, Texas passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024.
James was born January 18, 1949, in Sinton to Paul Lewis Vanecek and Agnes A. (Klepac) Vanecek. James began his journey with a strong educational foundation as a 1967 graduate of Sinton High School, followed by some college coursework at Del Mar in Corpus Christi. He bravely answered his nation's call when he was drafted into the Marine Corps, serving from May 23, 1968 to May 22, 1970 and earned the rank of E-4. He married Joyce Sansom in Sinton on June 10, 1972, and was an active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Robstown. His love of reading and studying the Bible brought him immense peace and joy.
In November 1972, James embarked on a distinguished career with the Corpus Christi Fire Department, where he dedicated 30 years of his life to serving his community. His hard work and leadership culminated in his retirement as Captain in 2002, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the privilege to work alongside him.
James was an avid collector, finding joy in gathering arrowheads, rocks and antiques. His passion for fishing and spending quality time with family brought him great happiness, highlighting his love for the outdoors and his cherished moments with loved ones and his pets. He absolutely loved nothing more than his sweet mother’s delicious kolaches.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and a brother, Michael Vanecek.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Joyce Vanecek of Corpus Christi; three daughters, Katherine (John) Kipp of Round Rock, Natasha Vanecek of Corpus Christi and Jamie O’Boyle of Spring; two granddaughters, Lauren Kipp of Round Rock and Katelyn (Orion) Rodriguez of Port Lavaca; one great-grandson, Ambrose Rodriguez; two brothers, Paul (Gail) Vanecek of Beeville and Clement Vanecek of Pettus; one sister, Christine (Bobby) Thomas of Beeville; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, October 5, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 5436 Richter St., Corpus Christi, Texas 78415.
