Jack E. Chesnut, 90, of Beeville, Texas passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019.

Jack was born in Llano, Texas on April 20, 1929 to S.E. Chesnut and Amy (Newsom) Chesnut.

Jack graduated from Llano High School in 1946, attended Texas A&M and graduated from Texas State University in 1950. Following graduation, Jack joined the U.S. Army. He was in the Artillery Division in the Korean War.

When he returned from the war, he started working for J&L Steel Corp. He resigned in 1965 to manage Newsom’s, Inc. in Beeville. After closing Newsom’s in 1990, Jack worked for Morrison-Knudson as the procurator in the building of McConnell and Garza prisons.

Jack married Rosamond Bryan in Sinton, Texas on September 13, 1980.

He had a great love for hunting, fishing and golf. He served as president of the Bee County Chamber of Commerce, vice president of the Kiwanis Club, director and president of Beeville Country Club, director of First National Bank and Vestry of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jack is survived by his wife, Rosamond Chesnut; children, Lee (Kim) Chesnut, Will (Marianne) Chesnut and Lea (Bill) Ipock; grandchildren, Ashleigh (Rick) Garcia, Alexus (Eric) Villarreal, A.J. Ipock, Matthew Ipock, Andrew Ipock and Cameron Ipock; and a great-grandchild, Easton Villarreal.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Brian Tarver officiating.

Jack will be laid to rest at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi at 2 p.m. that afternoon.

Pallbearers will be Gary Williams, John Breidenbach, Rick Garcia, Eric Villarreal, Ernie Alvarado and Tommy Jarrett Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Philip’s Episcopal School.

The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Exclusive Home Health and Hospice and to Woodridge Nursing Home.
