Henry Whelchel

Henry "Bailey" Whelchel Jr., 78, of Mathis, died Monday, March 1, 2010. He was born to Ellie (Sugarek) and Henry Whelchel Sr. on Aug. 31, 1931, in Houston. He married Jeanette Sliva on June 11, 1950, in Beeville. He was a retired oilfield consultant. Mr. Whelchel was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Warren "Bosco" Whelchel. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jeanette Whelchel; three daughters, Joy Whelchel of Cibolo, Barbara (Jerry) Richardson of Sugar Land and JoAnn (Charlie) Whelchel of Universal City; one son, Ron Whelchel of Cypress; one grandson, Brent Richardson of College Station; and a sister, Patsy Clements of Brownsboro. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. in Beeville Memorial Park.
