Gloria Anne Butler

Gloria Anne (Martindale) Butler, a true daughter of God, returned with joy into the presence of her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, on October 26, 2025. For the 89 years of her mortal life here upon the earth, she had been a source of great inspiration, love, and joy to all those who knew and loved her.

Born in Burley, Idaho (Cassia County) on the 27th of April 1936, Gloria was the eldest of seven children of William Morris “Pete” and Nanella (Webb) Martindale. They moved to Pocatello, Idaho where Gloria attended high school until the ninth grade. In 1953, Gloria and a friend moved to Victoria, Texas where she took a job as a waitress and met William Jewel Butler of Yoakum, Texas. Gloria and Jewel married on the 19th of January 1955, moving to Beeville in December 1956. They transferred to Corpus Christi for a few years before Jewel returned to Chase Field as a firefighter and making Beeville their home.

Gloria received her GED in 1970. She then attended Bee County College receiving her Certificate and License in Cosmetology. Gloria was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many positions of leadership and service within her church, serving as a seminary teacher for four years, a primary teacher, Relief Society president, 1st counselor, 2nd counselor as well as a Relief Society teacher, compassionate service leader and a visiting teacher.

Gloria touched the lives of hundreds of people for good in countless ways. She was a custodian for the LDS church for several years before her retirement. She was a volunteer at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville for more than 10 years. She enjoyed serving others; it brought peace to her heart and soul.

Gloria was a true and faithful Latter-day Saint. Her testimony of the Restoration of the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in these latter days was unshakable. She took her religious faith very seriously and tried each day of her life to be an instrument in the Lord’s hands to bless and uplift the lives of those around her.

In August 2022, Gloria moved to Summerset, South Dakota, to be closer to her son, David, and on October 13, 2024, she was baptized into the Catholic faith. Her gift for connecting with people allowed her to establish many lasting and meaningful friendships there as well, despite spending only a short time in South Dakota.

With a firm conviction that “families are forever,” she is survived by her precious children, eldest, Deborah “Debbie” Korth (Glen) of Fort Worth, Texas, Robert “Bobby” Butler (Julie) of Mansfield, Texas, David Butler (Tammy) of Summerset, South Dakota, Nancy Butler Cantu of Victoria, Texas and her baby, Brandon Butler (Gerri) of Waxahachie, Texas; her beloved sister and brothers, Myrna Louise Schwinn, William “Bill” Lyle Martindale (Becky) and Carl Raymond Martindale (Anita); a sister-in-law, Geraldlyn Martindale; and eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren and countless other extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Morris “Pete” Martindale and Nanella (Webb) Atkins; on December 16, 1994, her husband, William Jewel Butler, to whom she was sealed for time and all eternity in the Dallas Temple; on December 13, 1996, stepdaughter, Mary Ann (Butler) Walsh; three brothers, Vernon Martindale and Michael Lynn Martindale in infancy and Terry Edward Martindale.
