Elvira Montelongo, 78, entered eternal rest on October 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Elvira was a strong, outgoing, loving, and caring woman who was the heart and root of her family. She loved playing Lotería, visiting the game rooms, attending dances, and spending time with the people she loved. She had many dear friends throughout her life and especially loved being surrounded by good company and music. To her family, Elvira was so much more than a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she was home. She was the strength that held everyone together, the warmth that filled every gathering, and the love that made her family feel safe. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the love, strength, and memories she gave her family will remain with them forever.
Elvira was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Martin Carabajal; her son, Steven Silvas; her great-granddaughter, Adalyn Gonzales; her parents, Maria G. Farias and Yecid Farias; her brothers, Lucas Farias and Gilbert Farias; and her sister, Lydia Farias.
Survivors include seven children, Rosie Brandenburg (Manuel Lozano), Irma Dedow (Wayne Dedow), Carlos Carabajal (Denise), Michael Carabajal, Martin Carabajal Jr., Lisa Carabajal, and Mario (Crissy) Carabajal; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Gonzales (Omar), David Brandenburg (Daniella), Eliza Paiz (Enrique), and Clarissa Emilia Dedow; and six great-grandchildren, Allison Gonzales, Illiana Gonzales, Mila Gonzales, Elizyana Dedow Paiz, Daniel Paiz, and David Brandenburg III.
She is also survived by one sister, Sylvia Trevino; and three brothers, Juan Farias, Jesse Farias (Dalia Farias), and Jose Farias (Margie Deleon).
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, at Galloway & Sons Chapel with a Rosary led by Genny Henicke at 7 o’clock.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 8, at St. George Catholic Church in George West, with Father Francis Medanki officiating.
Burial will follow in the George West Cemetery.
Elvira will always be remembered for her strength, her loving heart, and the happiness she found in being surrounded by family, friends, music, and dancing. Her legacy will live on through the family she loved so deeply.
Pallbearers will be Eric Viafranco, Martin Lopez, Raymundo Garcia, David Brandenburg Jr., Manuel Lozano and Daniel Espinoza Jr.
Honorary pallbearer will be Arnulfo Diaz Gonzalez.
Following the burial, family and friends are invited to gather for a luncheon at St. George Catholic Church.
