Edward Frank Herolt, Jr., a dedicated veteran and cherished family man, passed away September 25, 2025, at the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville, Texas at the age of 83.
Edward was born May 17, 1942, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to Edward Frank Herolt, Sr. and Lillan (Hougaard) Herolt. He was a graduate of Kenosha High School and married Dollie Upchurch in Beeville, Texas on October 27, 1966. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, where he specialized in aviation electronics. His military career was distinguished by several honors, including the 5th Good Conduct Award received in 1981, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Navy Unit Commendation Medal. After his retirement from the Navy in 1982, Edward transitioned to a career in maintenance at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice where he continued to demonstrate his commitment to hard work and integrity.
An avid fisherman and hunter, he enjoyed the outdoors and took great pleasure in working on houses, always striving to maintain a neat and inviting yard. These hobbies provided him with countless moments of joy and fulfillment, allowing him to connect with nature and share special times with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Herolt in 1985; his father, Edward F. Herolt in 2002; and his beloved wife, Dollie Herolt in 2016.
Edward leaves behind a loving family, including his daughter, Tammie (Bryan) Cushing of Beeville; two sons, Edward (Renee) Herolt, III of Floresville and Roy (Dawn) Herolt of Victoria; and two brothers, Dennis Herolt and Dale Herolt. He took immense pride in being a grandfather to his five grandchildren: Ashley, Brittany, Alexis, Jordan and Clayton as well as great-grandfather to his four great-grandchildren: Aiden, Elias, Eden and Bailey, each of whom brought him joy and happiness.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, October 10, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Beeville with the funeral service to be conducted at 12 o’clock. Deacon Roger Rosenbaum will officiate. Burial will follow at Waldheim Cemetery in Tynan where he will be laid to rest beside his wife, Dollie.
Pallbearers will be Devin McKenzie, Gene Nugent, Edward Herolt, Clayton Herolt, Richard McBrayer and Bryan Cushing.
