Dr. John Howard Orchard, 82, a dedicated veterinarian and beloved member of the community, passed away on April 14, 2025, in Beeville, Texas. He was born on May 19, 1942, in Bryan, Texas, to John Malcolm Orchard and Virginia (Howard) Orchard.
Dr. Orchard graduated from Texas A&M University in 1964 with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and devoted more than 40 years to serving the health needs of animals. He owned and operated Beeville Veterinary Hospital, where he became known for his compassionate care and exceptional skill. His lifelong commitment to the veterinary profession has left an indelible mark on his community.
Dr. Orchard enjoyed hunting deer and doves with his sons in Beeville and Brooks County and spending time fishing in Port Aransas oftentimes going out of Marker 37. He was passionate about gardening and found great pleasure in watching Houston Astros baseball, Aggie football and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys.
Dr. Orchard was preceded in death by his parents, John Orchard and Virginia Trlica; his brother, Joe Orchard; his sister, Jane Compton; his son, Steve Orchard; wife, Christine Marshal Orchard; and his nephew, Russell Compton.
Dr. Orchard is survived by his son, Keith (Abi) Orchard of Pflugerville; his three beloved granddaughters, Taylor Orchard of San Marcos, Meridith Orchard of Austin and Sydney Orchard of San Antonio; daughter-in-law, Robin Orchard of Pettus; and his nephew, Wes Compton.
Dr. Orchard was also fortunate to share deep bonds with special friends, including Bill Lazenby, Ernie Ramon, Dru Arthur and Jimmy Jackson.
