Dr. Chandler, Jr.

Dr. James M. Chandler Jr., age 70, died after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on July 1, 1947, to James and Idella (Nelson) Chandler. He grew up in Normanna, Texas and attended schools in Pettus, Texas. Dr. Chandler graduated from Pettus High School in 1965. He served in the Army from 1969-1970 in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star, Silver Star and two Purple Hearts. Dr. Chandler went on to graduate from Rice University before attending medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed a residency in Family Medicine in 1982, and opened his practice in Beeville, Texas. Dr. Chandler served in the Beeville community for thirty years, where his greatest joy was delivering babies. He retired in 2012, to spend time with his family.

Dr. Chandler is preceded in death by his parents, James and Idella (Nelson) Chandler.

He is survived by his beloved wife of forty-five years, Carolyn; sons, James and Jason (Stephanie); daughter, Lauren (Chad) Byrd; four grandchildren, Ava, Ethyn, Emma and Ace; three brothers, Nelson (Lucy), Kenneth and Byron (Joann); two sisters, Della (Lowell) Smith and Mary Hudson; and many nieces and nephews.

Viewing services will be held at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home on Friday, September 8, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. Celebration of Life service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Beeville, Texas, on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at the Beeville Memorial Park.
