Donald “Don” Mcdonald

Donald “Don” Lewis McDonald, 72, peacefully passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, at his home in George West, Texas.

A true patriot with over 42 years of military service retired as a CW5, he served his country faithfully throughout his career including tours in Iraq and Bosnia. At the age of 61, Don and his wife, Jana, moved from Austin to George West to concentrate on other longtime passions: hunting, fishing and living a simpler life. He enjoyed his friendships and valued them accordingly.

Don was born on August 16, 1950 in Austin to Lewis Lee McDonald and Dorothy Viola (Mills) McDonald. He was baptized and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church and graduated from Lanier High School in Austin. In 1983, he met and married Janalyn Jackson, a true match made in heaven.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Dorothy McDonald.

Survivors include his wife of almost 38 years, Janalyn (Jackson) McDonald; two sons, Bryan (Mayo) McDonald and Jonathon McDonald; a stepson, Ryan Jackson of Austin; three granddaughters, Katie, Madison and Hailey McDonald; two grandsons, Hayden and Austin McDonald; a sister, Wanda “Sudie” McDonald; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 24, at Brush Country Cowboy Church, 1417 S. Hwy 37 Access Rd., George West, TX 78022.

Update for Donnie Mac’s ceremony for Friday the 30th. It will begin at 10 a.m. outside the LMO office for his live oak tree dedication with Chaplain prayer, followed by a walk to C1 maintenance pad for dedication. At approximately 10:30 a.m. we will conduct traditional military honors in the hangar. Once complete flight crews will depart for a flyover East to West over the hangar. The luncheon will start approximately at 11:45 a.m. and we ask friends to share stories of Mac towards the end of the meal. It will catered by Chisom Trail.
