Clifford Alton McKay

Clifford Alton McKay, 72, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and respected entrepreneur and Texas land surveyor, passed away on June 8, 2025, at his home in Beeville, Texas. Born on July 12, 1952, in Big Spring, Texas, Clifford was known for his unwavering dedication to his family and community throughout his life.

A proud veteran, he served honorably in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War for four years. His military service instilled in him a strong sense of duty and commitment, qualities that he carried into every aspect of his life. He was admired by many for his willingness to help others and his warm, generous spirit.

Clifford was a lifelong entrepreneur, establishing several successful businesses, including McKay's TV Shop, Laughlin & Simmons Inc. and C&L Surveying. His passion for crafting was evident in his handcrafted woodworking business, Salty Dog's Creations, and he shared his artistic eye through Salty Dog Images, a photography endeavor that captured the beauty around him. His favorite passion included surf fishing, and he was a member and patron of Shore Fishing and Casting Club International.

He married the love of his life, Lorna Jean Michaelsen, on January 30, 1981, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Together, they built a life filled with love and compassion. He often referred to Lorna affectionately as “Lady Bug,” a testament to their special bond.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eloise (Minton) McKay; his grandmother, Mary Jane Minton; and his brother, Joel McKay.

Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Lorna McKay; along with their three daughters, Jennifer J. Hernandez, Renee McKay and Mary Elisa Gonzalez; and his sister, Linda Lange. Missing their grandfather are his three cherished grandchildren, Collin M. Buezo, Citori J. Hernandez and Chloe E. Gonzales.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Beeville followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2 o’clock with Pastor Carl Pickett officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Israel Hernandez, Carlos Gonzales, Collin Buezo, Patrick Post and David Michaelsen.

Clifford’s impact on his family and community will be felt forever, as he truly was their hero.

An inurnment ceremony with military honors will be held at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi at 1 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2025.
