Claudia Ann McCarty Roeser, 81, passed away peacefully on June 23rd, 2026, in Houston, Texas.

Born on February 13, 1945, in Beeville, Texas, Claudia was the daughter of Kathleen Waldie McCarty and William Dalton McCarty. She graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1963 before attending The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a degree in English in 1967. She was a proud member and chapter president of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She was also honored as Miss South Texas, a distinction that beautifully highlighted her love of performance and dance.

After graduation, Claudia began her career with Global Marine in Houston. She married Frank John Roeser, Jr., and together they lived and worked abroad extensively, including time in Scotland, Norway, Africa, and Taiwan.

Upon returning to Houston, she served Westminster United Methodist Church as Director of Youth Ministries. This role deeply connected her to her community, a passion that seamlessly evolved into her life's work at The Women's Institute of Houston. She worked for The Women’s Institute for 20 years, surrounded by its lectures and programs where her love of lifelong learning found full expression. That same spirit drew her each summer to the Colorado Chautauqua in Boulder, an institution likewise founded on the principles of community and continued learning. At Chautauqua, she enjoyed the outdoors, the wonderful community, and being with family.

She volunteered with Westminster United Methodist Church, the Edna Gladney Center for Adoption, and the American Cancer Society. An avid reader, she also loved to correspond with family and friends through handwritten letters. She will be warmly remembered as a wonderful storyteller who maintained deep friendships across decades, keeping in touch regularly and gathering for reunions with her beloved BGs, pledge sisters, and friends from every stage of her life. Claudia loved to travel and cherished many trips with her sister and her mother, where they loved to shop, eat, and sight-see together.

Claudia was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Laurie Demouche Hunter; and her sister, Kathleen McCarty Ferguson.

She is survived by her daughter, Emily Roeser Wehring and husband Jonathan; her granddaughters, Anna Boehm Wehring, Caroline McCarty Wehring, and Ella Elizabeth Wehring; her nieces, Meredith Riddle Chastang and husband Patrick, and their son William McCarty Chastang; Elizabeth Riddle Anders and husband David, and their children Oliver Dalton Anders and Frances Kathleen Anders; and many beloved cousins and step-family.

A memorial service will be held in the Fellowship Hall at Westminster United Methodist Church, 5801 San Felipe, Houston, Texas, on July 31st at 10 AM. A graveside service will be held the following day August 1st at 10:30 AM at the Beeville Memorial Park Cemetery in Beeville, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of George H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Home in Houston as well as Galloway and Sons Funeral Home in Beeville. For those who so choose, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in her memory to Westminster United Methodist Church.
