Barbara Norris

Barbara Gwynell Norris, age 82, of Elkton, VA went to be with her Lord on May 16, 2017.

Barbara was born on September 3, 1934, in Alice, TX to William and Willie Grace (Palmer) Woodard. Barbara was wed to Wayne Norris on February 14, 1953, at the Clegg Baptist Church. Wayne and Barbara had two sons, Larry and Keith. The family moved to Fentress, TX in 1958 and Barbara worked as the school secretary at Prairie Lea ISD for many years. Upon retirement, the couple returned to George West, TX where both had attended high school. Barbara was a faithful member of the George West First Baptist Church. In 2008, Wayne and Barbara moved to Elkton, VA to be near their family.

Barbara was known for being a servant, always looking for ways to contribute to those around her, especially her family. She volunteered in church often as treasurer and teaching children’s Sunday school classes. She enjoyed sewing clothes for her family and made beautiful dresses for her granddaughters. She wanted to be independent and was still driving herself around at 82 years of age, and kept her financial affairs in good order.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; and son, Larry.

She is survived by her brother, Jimmie Woodard; her son, Keith Norris; daughters-in-law, Debbie and Patty Norris; granddaughters, Jasmin Norris, Aneila (Norris) Baker, Natalie Norris and Cameo Bua-Clements.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at First Baptist Church in George West. Interment will follow at the George West Cemetery beside, Wayne, her husband of 57 years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
