Ann Sharon (Colle) Coquat

Ann Sharon (Colle) Coquat, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2025, in New Ibera, Louisiana, just days shy of her 90th birthday.

Ann was born in San Antonio, Texas on November 18, 1935, to the late Ernest Colle and Lucille (Troell) Colle. In September of 1954, Ann married Jerry Coquat, the love of her life, and together they built a beautiful family. Jerry’s career in the oilfield brought them to Alice, Texas in 1959, where they raised their three children. The family's journey took them to Morgan City, Louisiana, before finally settling in New Iberia in 1976, where they remained.

Ann’s education began at Texas A&I University, now Texas A&M at Kingsville, where she nurtured the seeds of her lifelong dedication to teaching. She began her career as a substitute teacher at NISH and in Grand Marais, eventually transitioning into a full-time kindergarten teacher at Coteau Elementary, then Jefferson Island Elementary, from where she retired. Her warmth, patience and passion for shaping young minds left a lasting impact on countless students who were fortunate enough to experience her care and guidance.

Ann found joy in flower gardening, often nurturing her plants as she nurtured her family. In the earlier days with Jerry, she dabbled in vegetable gardening, fostering a connection to the land that brought them sustenance and joy. She cherished every moment spent with family and friends, cultivating relationships that blossomed as beautifully as her garden.

In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Coquat; and a brother, Frank Colle.

Mrs. Coquat is survived by three children, Michael Coquat, Curtis Coquat (Gaye Trimble Coquat) and Lucy Coquat Freyou (Jeffery Freyou), all of New Iberia; sister, Carol Colle Swisher of Alice, Texas; grandchildren, Hannah Coquat, Katie Boudoin, Heath Freyou and Lee Freyou; and great-grandchildren, Dawsyn Boudoin, Emmett Boudoin and Laurel Freyou.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Three Rivers followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Oakville Cemetery in Oakville, Texas where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Jerry.

Pallbearers will be Travis Colle, Clint Colle, Ernie Colle, Heath Freyou, Lee Freyou and William Swisher.

Ann will be remembered not only for her accomplishments in education but also for the profound kindness and love she exuded throughout her life. May she rest in peace.
