Abelia (Davila) Martinez

On December 12, 2023, Abelia (Davila) Martinez, 79, of George West, Texas, gained her heavenly wings.

Abelia was born September 30, 1944, in Karnes City to Gerardo Davila and Maria (Sotello) Davila. She was a faithful Jehovah's Witness and loved reading scriptures. As a beloved member of the George West ISD, Abelia retired as a school bus driver after 30 years of dedicated service safely transporting children to and from school.

She was the biggest fan and cheerleader for her sons and grandchildren as they all were her pride and joy. She loved listening to music, cooking, dancing, spending time with family and bird watching.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria (Sotello) Sanchez; and her father, Gerardo "Lalo" Davila.

Mourning their mother’s loss are her sons, Leroy (Carrie) Martinez and Gable (Shaunna) Martinez, both of George West; as well as her grandchildren, Sierra (Jake) Cannon, Bianca Martinez, Morgan (Corey) Blaschke, Reilly Martinez, Raquel Martinez, Carlee Martinez and Rebecca Martinez; great-grandchildren, Jacob (Ashley) Cannon, Jordyn Cannon, Jasmyn Cannon, Colt Blaschke and Candace Blaschke; brothers, David (Emma) Davila of Friona, Texas, and Ralph (Pam) Carreon of Sublette, Kansas; sisters, Mary Lou Garcia, Eolanda Carreon and Olivia Sanchez, all of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, at Brush Country Cowboy Church with Pastor Pat Traxler officiating.

Burial will follow in the George West Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Ruiz, Reilly Martinez, Joe Sotello, Eddie Bustamante, Roel Gutierrez and Raymond Martinez.
