Priscilla Evelyn (Traynham) Hurt, 98, of George West, Texas, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019.

Priscilla was born December 1, 1920, to Sanford Traynham and Maudie (Wauford) Traynham in Traskwood, Arkansas. She was self-taught pianist and played and wrote music by ear. She was also a writer, poet and self-taught musician. She enjoyed sewing, reading and beating you mercilessly in scrabble or 42.

Priscilla was preceded in death by her parents, Sanford and Maudie Traynham; her husband, Walter Harry “Jack” Hurt; her son, David Arthur Hurt; siblings, Vera Shamblin (Royce), Virgie Clepper (Bob) and Reuben Traynham; and a step-granddaughter, Cathy Barnes.

Survivors include her granddaughters, Sheley (Damon) Trumps of Colorado and Priscilla E. Hurt (Laurie) of Three Rivers; two grandsons, Storm (Rebecca) Hurt of George West and David “Lightning” Hurt of Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Imagene Hurt of George West; a sister-in-law, Joy Traynham; and great-grandchildren, Tannah, Wesley, Kirsten, Kristopher, Tanner, Carson, Bobbie Jo, Kade, Hannah, Dustie, Jon, Michael and Melissa.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West, Texas, followed by the funeral service at 2 o’clock.

Burial will follow at Brister Cemetery in Campbellton, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Kristopher Hurt, Tanner Hurt, Jon Davis, Michael Guidry, Storm Hurt and Buddy Wayne Shamblin.

The matriarch of our family, “Grandma,” will be missed. Every day we will strive to be loving, kind and compassionate and still fall short of the example she lived.
