Darlene Muennink Vautrain
June 23, 1937  -  January 5, 2018

Darlene Muennink Vautrain passed away peacefully from this earth January 5, 2018, in San Antonio Texas. She was a south Texas girl through and through and was so proud of her south Texas roots. Darlene was born in George West on June 23, 1937, to Lee and Wanda Muennink. She was raised in Alice where she graduated from William Adams High School. She loved growing up in Alice and was so thankful for the lifetime of friendships which she established there. DD, as she was known by her family, went on to Southwest Texas State where she excelled as a student Senator, Gaillardian and was acknowledged as a member of Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. She obtained her degree in Home Economics which was her true passion in life. Her talents in sewing and cooking were abundant, and her seamstress talents helped her in winning the ‘Miss Mohair' title, a crown in which she was most proud of. DD went on to share her love and passion as a teacher, and she taught school for many years in Junction, San Angelo and San Antonio.
DD truly enjoyed traveling, reading and learning about history. She was fortunate to get to travel all over the U.S., Canada and Europe and enjoyed learning the history in each place she visited. In her past time, she so enjoyed her blooming plants/flowers and was an avid football fan. She will be greatly missed, but we take comfort in knowing that her great faith in God will guide her to eternal rest.
DD was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Hoggett McMillan, her parents, and a brother, Harvey Muennink. She is survived by her son, Derrick Hoggett, and spouse, Radell; brother, O.C. Muennink and spouse, Kaye. In addition, two granddaughters, Kailey McMillan and Laramie Lee, and one great-grandson, Cameron Lee. She leaves behind two very special nieces and a nephew, Heather Johnson and Louis and Donna Muennink.
The family would like to thank the good folks at Alamo Hospice, Ninfa Alba, as well as the many doctors and care takers who cared for DD throughout her lengthy illness. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite Hospice organization, the American Cancer Society or charitable establishment of their choice.
Graveside services are scheduled for January 20th at 2:00 pm, in the George West Cemetery where she will be buried next to her beloved parents.
